An enclosed verandah can leave a homeowner looking through two sets of windows where the house originally had one.
The outer enclosure may contain casements, louvres or fixed panels. Behind it, the original bedroom or living room windows can still remain in place. Cleaning only the surface closest to the room does not necessarily clear the view, because dust, insects, and marks may be present on either layer.

Treat the Enclosure as a Small Room
Once a verandah has been enclosed, the space between the original wall and the newer outer glazing behaves differently from an ordinary exterior wall.
It may be used as a study, sunroom or circulation space. Dust can settle on sills and ledges, while insects gather around screens, corners and window hardware.
The original windows may now face this enclosed zone rather than the weather. Their outer surfaces have effectively become internal surfaces, even though they remain part of the original house.
A complete result, therefore, depends on the whole space. The outer enclosure, the original window line and the surfaces between them can each affect what is visible from the adjoining room.
Identify Every Window Type Before Work Begins
Older Coorparoo homes can contain several types of glazing within a single verandah.
Timber casements may open in pairs. Double-hung sashes move vertically. Hopper windows tilt from one edge. Later aluminium sliders may sit beside original timber frames, while leadlight or textured panes may remain in doors and feature windows.
These components should not be handled as though they are interchangeable. A sash may be painted shut, a casement stay may be stiff, and an older screen may no longer release cleanly. Forcing a component to gain access can create a repair problem that did not exist before the clean.
Opening sections that move normally can be dealt with as part of the agreed scope. Components that are fragile, fixed or heavily painted should be left secure rather than treated as obstacles to overcome.
One Clean Surface Can Still Look Clouded
Layered glazing can make it difficult to tell where a mark is located.
A smear visible from the living room may be on the room-side face of the original window, the verandah-side face of that pane or the outer enclosure beyond it. In bright light, dust on one layer can appear to sit on another.
This is why cleaning the nearest surface can produce an unsatisfying result. The pane is clear, but the view through the full depth of the verandah is not.
The same confusion occurs with flyscreens, lattice and privacy treatments. Dust on a screen can soften the appearance of otherwise clean glass. Textured or leadlight panes will not look identical to modern clear glass, even when any surface dirt is removed.
The aim is to separate removable contamination from the permanent character and condition of each component.
Painted Timber Needs a Different Expectation
Traditional windows are part glass and part joinery.
Peeling paint, loose putty, swollen timber or corroded hardware are maintenance issues rather than window-cleaning residue. Cleaning may make those conditions easier to see, but it cannot repair them.
Recently painted frames create another consideration. The coating should be properly cured before the window is handled and cleaned. Tape, paint spots or protective film left after painting should be identified rather than assumed to be ordinary grime.
Brisbane City Council guidance encourages retaining original details in traditional houses, including timber windows and doors. A careful clean should respect the existing joinery instead of treating age as something to scrub away.
Make Both Window Lines Part of One Decision
Where an enclosed verandah has become a regularly used room, both the outer enclosure and the original window line contribute to the light and outlook. Cleaning one without the other may leave the space looking a little different.
Where the enclosure is used mainly for storage or circulation, the outer windows may have a greater effect on the room beyond. The original windows still matter, but the two lines may not need identical attention every time.

We had the windows in three bedrooms and two bathrooms in our 3rd floor apartment, floor-to-ceiling 3 & 5 glass panel bifold doors, and glass balcony ballustrades cleaned this morning, on time and expertly done. So expert in fact, that I thought he'd left one of the windows out - it was that clean I had to rap my knuckles on it to make sure it was there. They also cleaned the 17-glass louvre cassette in the main bedroom, the adjustable louvred kitchen window awning, and, outside of the quoted scope, they cleaned four full length bedroom sliding mirror doors.
